Delaware Growers Asked to Consider Planting an Extra Row to Feed the Hungry

February 3, 2010 under CANR News

We are pleased to announce that Delaware Cooperative Extension (Delaware State University and University of Delaware) has partnered again with the Food Bank of Delaware to promote the Delaware Plant A Row program.

The Food Bank of Delaware partners with 350-plus member agencies and feeding programs to distribute to needy families in Delaware. Through this program millions of pounds of fresh produce have been donated.

We hope that this generosity continues. We ask that you consider becoming a participant in our Plant A Row program to again assist in ending hunger. If you participated last year, we thank you for your valued contributions and ask that you consider participating again this year. As a participant you would plant an additional row (or more) of your produce and then donate to the Food Bank. If you cannot plant extra rows, but have extra produce, the Food Bank accepts any surplus produce that you might have as part of the Plant A Row program. This enables Food Bank of Delaware to distribute your bountiful harvest to those in need of food assistance.

Please make sure to mention the Delaware Cooperative Extension/Food Bank Plant A Row program when making your donation. If it is your preference, we also have Certificates of Appreciation for donations that are made.

Donations are accepted at the Milford and Newark Food Bank warehouses Monday through Friday 8:30am to 4:00pm. If you have any additional questions in reference to donating food or other goods please email or call Charlotte McGarry at or 302-292-1305 x211.

If you have questions about Plant A Row, specific technical questions, or would like a Certificate of Appreciate for your donation, please don’t hesitate to contact me via phone (302) 831-8860 or e-mail at

Thank you for considering this worth-while cause! Here’s to a great growing season!
