The Longwood Graduate First Year Fellows are thrilled to be embarking on a trip to South Africa for their International Experience (IE).
On 8th January, the class of 2011, Laura Aschenbeck, Kate Baltzell, Rebecca Pineo, Zoe Panchen (2010 IE Leader) and Dongah Shin together with the Longwood Graduate Program Director, Dr. Robert Lyons and Longwood Garden’s representative Kat McCollough will leave for a two week tour of some of the many public gardens and horticulture institutions in South Africa.
South Africa has one of the world’s largest floral diversities, a rich culture and a wide variety of horticulture institutions, offering a unique opportunity to learn about horticulture in another part of the world. The Fellows will start their trip in Cape Town followed by stays in Kruger National Park, Durban and Johannesburg. To take a sneak preview of the horticulture institutions the Fellows will be visiting, view the Google map at South Africa – LGP International Experience.
The Fellows plan to provide daily updates to the blog so please check in often and add your comments!
The International experience is an opportunity for the Fellows to experience the culture, floral diversity and public garden management in another part of the world. To learn more about the Program’s International Experience and previous trips, visit the Program’s Web site.
