Queen Rearing For The Backyard Beekeeper
Queen Rearing for the Backyard Beekeeper: A workshop on techniques
Date: June 1, 2014
Location: University of Delaware Teaching Apiary
In the Classroom: This workshop will go over the reproductive biology of queen and drone honey bees. Management options will be discussed in light of the understanding of the mating genetics of honey bees.
In the Field: In the apiary I will teach three methods of queen production that can be easily mastered to supply enough queens to requeen your own apiary and share with others. We will create a cell builder colony and use the cell punch method to raise a batch of queens.
-This workshop will be capped at 20 individuals and will operate on a first come first serve basis. To register please send an email to Dr. Delaney at email@example.com. In the email please state how long you have been keeping bees and what you hope to get out of the workshop.
